Is your Canvas awning covered in algae? We can clean it .
We were called in to this popular American style diner in Bradford. The canvas awnings on the Dutch style canopy have been infested and overgrown by algae. The proprietor were concerned that we would not be able to restore the canvas to a suitable standard. They even got a quote for a whole new replacement canopy fitting . But that was not necessary . We got great results. Firstly we treat the canvas with a specialised product to kill off the growth of mould , mildew and algae. This makes the cleaning process easier and quicker. Then we lightly wash a layer off grime and growth away. As canvas is a sensitive substance (compared to concrete or stone ) we perform the cleaning process in phases. So we apply a second round of chemical , let it dwell , agitate with a soft brush then another light wash down. Its important to take care and not be tempted to rush the cleaning. Keeping the pressure washer on a low setting is important in order to avoid weakening the tight weave in the fabric. Also using medium bristle brushes helps avoid unnecessary wear and tear.We keep the chemicals as mild as possible because once you damage the colour of an awning that is irreversible. Bleach based or caustic products should be avoided if possible. If staining remains we carefully small test areas with stronger chemicals. We clean the skirts of the awning carefully by hand as they are the most delicate part and they often contain lettering. It’s important not to forget underneath the canopy including the metal struts , as this area is well seen by customers. We finish off by cleaning up the area and any overspray on Windows, doors etc .
